Alpha 2 Entries Are Now Closed – Players fear the ‘FOMO’ of Ashes of Creation

Players can no longer purchase an entry to the anticipated Alpha 2 which finally allows the Community to play-test Ashes of Creation. This has caused large outrage and fear.

Ashes of Creation is currently not yet playable – the next time you will be able to play the MMORPG will be in Q3 2024, in Alpha 2.
However, you can no longer get into this Alpha 2: Only people who have bought a pre-order package for $250 will get access. This is no longer offered.

The FOMO of the Alpha 2

Ashes of Creation had already announced in August 2023 that they had enough testers for Alpha 2 and would no longer be selling the pre-order package. However, they did not stop selling it immediately, but set a date of January 17, 2024. So almost half a year later.

Before the package was actually taken off the market, potential customers were reminded that now was the last chance to buy it.

However, the package is still not really “gone”, because anyone who has bought a smaller pre-order package so far can still purchase an upgrade for an additional charge and still get into the beta.

The criticism of the whole spectacle is that the developers want to create an artificial feeling of “FOMO” (Fear of Missing Out). Because of course they want to sell as many of these expensive packages as possible, but are artificially pretending that the offer won’t be around for much longer in order to urge potential buyers to snap it up after all.

The MMORPG is being picked apart in a recent thread on reddit. It says:

  • It’s silly anyway that the MMORPG isn’t even playable after so long in development. Development takes forever.

  • Final Fantasy XIV completed its reboot in a much shorter time and recreated itself from scratch

  • By the time the game comes out, it will be at least “5 years out of date”

  • The game had raised expectations far too high, which it could never meet

  • “mixture of Starfield and Star Citizen”
