Destiny 2 cheat seller AimJunkies has been denied a new trial request against Bungie, who originally filed a lawsuit against the group and its parent company Phoenix Digital in June 2021. This trial request came a year after AimJunkies was ordered to pay more than $4.3 million to Bungie for violating the company’s DMCA and bypassing protection measures for Destiny 2.
Bungie has an extensive history of legal battles against cheat groups and other malicious actors that sought to gain an unfair advantage against other players in Destiny 2. One of the most recent and prolific cases involves AimJunkies, as Bungie is highly determined to prevent any cheat providers from ruining the in-game experience in the Crucible and competitive Trials of Osiris activity. Nearly two years after filing the initial complaint, the judge ruled in Bungie’s favor in February 2023, determining that AimJunkies had violated the studio’s DMCA and reverse engineered Destiny 2 to develop and sell its cheats. As a result, the judge ordered AimJunkies to pay the aforementioned $4.3 million sum to the studio to cover damages and Bungie’s legal fees. The legal battle was not completely over for the cheat group, as AimJunkies filed two appeals against Bungie this year.
AimJunkies tried to appeal the court’s decision in favor of Bungie and the $4.3 million arbitration award. The group failed to convince the court to overturn the jury verdict and was denied a trial. The arbitration award was affirmed, meaning Bungie can now collect it from AimJunkies.
Following the latest ruling, Bungie may now collect the arbitration award, since the appeal requests by AimJunkies have been denied. This appears to be a definitive win for the company as Bungie continues its long battle against Destiny 2 cheat makers that pose a threat against the security of the game.
While legal battles against cheaters continue, updates for Destiny 2 are still being prepared by Bungie. Destiny 2 Episode 1: Echoes Act 3 launched on August 27, serving as the concluding chapter of the Echoes storyline. Episode 2: Revenant is expected to launch this October with more new content, including story missions, legendary gear and weapons, and new Exotics.
