Destiny 2 Teases Major New Content Coming in 2025

Destiny 2 shifts to episodic content with Echoes, Revenant, and Heresy episodes leading up to mysterious Codename Frontiers in 2025.
  • Echoes focuses on Failsafe and Nessus, while Revenant delves into the Fallen faction with dark fantasy themes and potion crafting.
  • Heresy brings back Dreadnaught and the Hive Pantheon, teasing a mysterious eldritch force, while Year 11, Codename Frontiers, leaves fans speculating.

Following the release of The Final Shape, Bungie outlines where Destiny 2 is going in 2024 and beyond, outlining the next 3 content episodes and teasing what comes after. Excitement in the Destiny 2 community appears to be at an all-time high, as The Final Shape has finally launched after a big delay and, for most, it has delivered an experience worthy of capping off the journey to this point. Alongside a climatic final battle with The Witness, this expansion has added a wealth of content which aims to keep players busy well after the campaign comes to an end.

With The Final Shape finally putting an end to the decade-long Light and Darkness saga, fans began wondering what was next for the online game. Last year, Bungie teased fans with its plans, announcing a shift away from traditional Destiny 2 seasons into Episodic content, though details at that time were fairly slim. With the launch of The Final Shape, players saw a bit more details for Episode 1: Echoes, which seemed to place an emphasis on Failsafe and the Nessus destination. Now, thanks to a new trailer, fans have a better understanding as to where Bungie intends to take Destiny 2 next.

Revealed inside a new Destiny 2 trailer, Bungie detailed each of the three new episodes the studio previously revealed. Starting on June 11, Episode 1: Echoes will begin, bringing players back to Nessus where the Vex have begun acting strangely amid major changes happening to the destination. Destiny 2 players will be working with the chaotic AI known as Failsafe once more and take on a new 3-person, arena-style activity where players are fighting waves of enemies while capturing points before a mysterious new enemy and lost civilization appears.

Destiny 2 Episodes Roadmap

  • Episode 1: Echoes
  • Episode 2: Revenant
  • Episode 3: Heresy
  • 2025 and Beyond: Codename Frontiers

Episode 2, known as Revenant, places the focus on the Fallen enemy faction as they continue to look for a new home. Bungie describes episode 2 as having dark fantasy themes like vampires mixed with the techno style seen through the House of Light leader, Misraaks. During this episode, players will take part in potion crafting, being able to make combat and loot-specific enhancements that is intended to give more agency over what sort of pursuits they want to chase while playing. The big bad for this season is Fikrul from the Forsaken expansion and former leader of the Scorned Barons, who has now moved into an Awoken Watchtower, which Bungie indicated features design inspirations taken from the horror genre.
